Review: Casino Royale

This'll be a short review, as I need to get to bed and wake up early for work tomorrow...

The Good: Nice reboot to the James Bond series. Nice to see an inexperienced Bond fumble a bit--showed he was human after all. Eva Green as Vesper was a welcome sight, she was a smart and well-rounded Bond-girl who wasn't a throwaway character at all. Great use of mental smarts; showed why Bond was picked for the job of 007. Overall good main characters.

The Bad: Suffered from an iffy plot, and underdeveloped story. The bad-guys really weren't that "bad" and ended up serving almost as disposable characters for short segments of "evil." Le Chiffe's (the bad-guy) girlfriend was subservient, unnamed and almost never spoke. Plot development came too close to the end of the film for my liking. Couldn't been edited better too, got a bit long and drawn out, detracted from the better points of the movie. Flawed opening and lead-up to main plot.

As much as I liked some of the changes to the Bond series, it still suffered from a lot of bad cliché's and underdeveloped plot. It could've been edited a lot better, and I'd almost try doing that myself. There were a lot of throwaway characters too, that ended up getting lost in the dust. It was enjoyable enough to watch, but I don't know if it was worth buying (borrowed it from school library). I think if it was edited down a bit, and some unneeded bits were taken out, this could be a really good Bond film.
